4+1 Degree Education Programs

The 4+1 Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts/Master of Science in Education Programs are academic programs of study that allow students interested in the teaching profession as a career to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in an accelerated format. Through this special program, qualified students who major in English, History, Mathematics, or Spanish can receive teacher certification in Adolescence Education. A key feature of this program allows students to take up to 15 graduate education credits during their second-semester junior year and senior year. These courses can be used toward satisfying the bachelor’s as well as the master’s degree requirements.

BA in English with MS in Adolescent Education
BA in History with MS in Adolescent Education
BS in Mathematics with MS in Adolescent Education
BA in Spanish with MS in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

The Cinema Studies Minor

Minoring in Cinema Studies is for those not majoring in Media Studies. ENGL 111 is a Prerequisite for all media studies courses except MEDA 145, MEDA 240, MEDA 275, and all radio, television and media production courses.

Choose 5 courses (15 credits) from this group.

Communication Arts Minor

15 Credits. Any combination of Communication Arts courses.
Note: COMM 110 Oral Communication is excluded.

The Digital Journalism Minor

Minoring in Digital Journalism is for those not majoring in Media Studies. ENGL 111 is a Prerequisite for all media studies courses except MEDA 145, MEDA 240, MEDA 275, and all radio, television and media production courses.

The Gender & Women’s Studies Minor

GWS is an interdisciplinary minor that examines issues and perspectives related to gender and sexuality in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.
Requirements for the minor would consist of 5 courses (15 sem. Cr. hrs.), with at least three at the 200-level or higher.

The Latin American and Latino Studies Minor

15 credits required.

Students who choose to minor in Latin American and Latino Studies must complete 15 credits taken across at least three different programs. The minor requires students to take at least one Spanish course in the Modern Foreign Languages program, as well as one of the two English courses and one of the four history courses listed below.

The Media Production Minor

Minoring in Media Production is for those not majoring in Media Studies. ENGL 111 is a Prerequisite for all media studies courses except MEDA 145, MEDA 240, MEDA 275, and all radio, television and media production courses.

The Media Writing Minor

Minoring in Media Writing is for those not majoring in Media Studies. ENGL 111 is a Prerequisite for all media studies courses except MEDA 145, MEDA 240, MEDA 275, and all radio, television and media production courses.

The Philosophy Minor

15 credits required.

Students who choose to minor in Philosophy must complete 5 courses in Philosophy with at least 3 courses in the 200-level or higher.

Theatre Arts Minor

15 Credits. Students who choose to minor in Theatre Arts can complete it with 15 credits earned through five of the courses listed below.
Note: At least TWO of these courses must be selected from the COMM/MEDA performance selections (246, 262, 263, 282).

Restrictions:

Course credits used to fulfill the Ethical Perspectives General Education Requirement cannot be used towards the minor.
