RELG 210 - Religious Traditions Credit(s): 3 This seminar will focus on the relationship between socio-political change and religion. Specific attention will be paid to theories of social change, the elements within a religious tradition which determine its social character and the role of religion in social movements such as the Civil Rights Movement, the Sanctuary Movement, the Catholic Workers Movement, the Indian Independence Movement, Alcoholics Anonymous, and the Farm Workers Movement. Students will examine the lives and writings of such religious leaders as, Malcolm X, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy Day, Oscar Romero, etc.
Only open to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences Program.
