HIST 333 - Asia in Revolution Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact Prerequisite(s): ENGL 112 or ENGL 192 This course explores communist revolutions in Asian countries including China, North Korea, Vietnam, and Cambodia during the twentieth century. We will take a global, comparative perspective to address communist ideologies and revolutionary events in the twentieth-century historical contexts of colonialism and the Cold War. By reading primary and secondary sources, we will investigate how revolutionary visions were constructed and how communist revolutions changed traditional societies, both realizing and failing to achieve communist ideals.
