HIST 332 - Chinese History Since 1949 Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact Prerequisite(s): ENGL 112 or ENGL 192 This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to the history of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The course will cover background history before the founding of the PRC in 1949, Mao Zedong’s regime (1949-1976), and the reform era from 1976 to the present. The course aims to draw an outline of PRC history, covering political, social, economic, and intellectual developments in China since 1949, to understand socialist transformations and economic reforms within a global context (the Cold War and after). To this end, the course will be chronologically organized with a significant inclusion of materials about the international environment.
