EDUC 658 - Seminar: Orgn/Admin Lit Prgms Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact Prerequisite(s): 27 credits in Literacy including at least one practicum and permission of the program chair. This course focuses on the organization and implementation of reading programs and services. It includes needs assessment, program planning, curriculum construction, organization, assessment, staff development, program evaluation, analysis of management techniques, and the development of skills necessary to implement reading programs and instruction for a total school population. Included in the role of the literacy teacher in organizing and enhancing literacy programs is the communication of literacy information results to teachers, school personnel, parents and regulatory agencies. A 10-hour, supervised field-based project is required. A range of practicum options is available, such as applied projects, practical and/or research based activities that explore how to develop, deliver, and evaluate reading and writing instruction for all students. Project design is based on individual needs, and career objectives and goals. Twenty hours of fieldwork required.
