International Student Services
The mission of International Student Services (ISS) is to assist members of the Mercy University international community by providing support and advising to ensure success while maintaining compliance with immigration regulations. The office works to provide a meaningful cross-cultural experience for both international students and domestic university community members. ISS provides comprehensive support to F1 visa students focusing on immigration compliance, cultural adjustment, and academic integration. ISS offers employment authorization (OPT/CPT) assistance, tax guidance, and social programming to help international students thrive from admission and securing their I20 to graduation. ISS also works in collaboration with other departments to create opportunities where international students can foster a sense of community while fully integrating into the Mercy community. The ISS office also includes study abroad advising and services for both inbound and outbound students.
Study Abroad
Mercy University encourages students to enrich their educational experience by studying abroad in approved programs. Study abroad affords students opportunities to learn in a foreign country while earning credits towards their Mercy University degree. While living and studying in another country, Mercy students experience first-hand new cultures, people, and places. In the study abroad experience, whether inside or outside the classroom, students discover what it means to be a global citizen; develop global perspectives on academic subjects and real-world issues; gain deep exposure to a foreign language; grow personally; and develop vital career skills, such as independence, critical thinking, expanded worldview, communication, self-confidence, and the ability to learn in unfamiliar settings.
Study abroad is open to any student at Mercy University who has successfully completed at least twenty-four (24) credit hours at Mercy University (the equivalent of two full-time semesters) and has a minimum GPA of 2.8 at Mercy University. Academic credit is given for a program of foreign study that is planned prior to departure, approved by Mercy University, and is successfully completed (with a grade of C or better). Grades earned abroad are not calculated into a student’s Mercy University GPA. In addition to the semester abroad model, short-term study abroad experiences of two to four weeks and short-term, faculty-led programs are also available.
Mercy University has exchange partnerships with several foreign universities. These agreements facilitate study abroad through reciprocal acceptance of credits among foreign university partners and Mercy University. Some of the partners include:
