4+1 BS+MS Computer Science Program

The 4+1 B.S./ M.S. Computer Science Program offers a unique opportunity to qualified Mercy College undergraduate Computer Science majors who wish to pursue an M.S. in Computer Science degree at an accelerated pace. Students can choose either the Software Development or the Data Science Specialization in the M.S. program. Incoming students may declare the 4+1 B.S./ M.S. Computer Science program as a freshman or later if they decide to switch to this program.

Upon approval from the Program Director, students may take four graduate-level Computer Science courses (12 credits) while pursuing their B.S. degree. These 12 credits will be applied to both the undergraduate and graduate programs and will allow a seamless transition for the student into the graduate program. Students who complete the 4+1 B.S./ M.S. Computer Science Program can potentially complete the M.S. degree within one year after completing their B.S. degree. Contact the M.S. Computer Science Program Director for more information.

Graduate Progression Requirements

In the spring of the third undergraduate year, students in the B.S./ M.S. Computer Science program will be evaluated by the Graduate Computer Science Program Director for a review of their continued qualifications and progression to the M.S. portion of the program.

Students must have a 3.0 overall and major GPA to progress to the M.S. program in the fourth undergraduate year. For those students who do not meet the GPA requirement, their major will be changed to the B.S. Computer Science and they will be conferred the B.S. degree upon completion of the undergraduate degree requirements.
