EDUC 553 - Mathematics in Childhood and Early Childhood Education Credit(s): 3 3 semester hours This course examines and applies a constructivist approach to the teaching and learning of mathematics including effective teaching practices that use knowledge of individual and group motivation and behavior to foster active engagement in learning, self-motivation, and positive social interaction. The nature of mathematics, inquiry-based practices, and content related to school mathematics will be explored. This course places a general emphasis on the New York State Curriculum Standards. Ten hours of fieldwork required.
