EDUC 713 - Seminar in Teaching Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact Prerequisite(s): Application for clinical practice placement and director’s approval, completion of 30 credits of coursework with a 3.0 grade point average, a passing score on the appropriate CST. The course is designed to support teacher candidates as they develop and refine the skills necessary to become innovative problem solvers and successful classroom teachers. The course focuses on strategies for promoting a positive classroom environment, guiding student behavior, and delivering effective instruction to create a climate conducive to learning and engagement. Open-ended discussions will center on emerging problems common to practicing teachers, as well as other issues that affect classroom life. Candidates are expected to test the new skills and strategies in the authentic environments of their clinical placements. Students will be observed teaching at each level of their certification area by a University clinical field supervisor.
