NURS 231 - Pathopharmacology 1 Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact This course introduces the student to general and foundational principles in pathophysiology and pharmacology, examining pathophysiological mechanisms in selected human diseases, syndromes, and/or conditions and integrating related pharmacotherapeutics to establish a biophysiological basis for understanding relevant clinical assessments, clinical manifestations, and disease trajectories. Manifestations of disease and alterations in select body systems are discussed providing a foundation for establishing physiological priorities for nursing care. The presentation of each disease/disorder entity includes relevant risk factors, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations and a brief review of treatment including pharmacologic therapies commonly used to manage the disease.
