PSYN 412 - Art Therapy

Prerequisite(s): PSYN 106 Introduction to Psychology  and an intermediate level psychology course.
This seminar will explore the theoretical premises and growth of art therapy as a field of psychology. Students will identify the applications of art therapy in various therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Object Relations therapy. Assessment tools as they relate to the field of art therapy will be explored, specifically the Ulman Kramer, the three Silver Tests, and the Bridge. The course will also examine the application and use of art therapy among various and diverse clinical groups such as the autistic, schizophrenic, and mood disordered. A Life Arts Project is required. Only open to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences program.
