SOCL 220 - Contemporary Social Problems

Prerequisite(s): SOCL 102 Introduction to Sociology  
This seminar will make an integrated examination of contemporary social problems, particularly as these are found in the urban communities of the United States. It will pay particular attention to the processes of definition of social problems as well as to common or special causes and effects of such issues as: mental health, family life, social welfare crime, prison reform, drugs, deviance, environmental deterioration, alienation and violence. Potential resources and avenues of alternative solutions to problems will be a focus of study. A Research Paper is required.   

Only open to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences program.
