PSYN 403 - Traumatic Stress Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact This course introduces students to the concepts and terminology surrounding traumatic events. Readings and discussion will focus on the various life events, in conjunction with risk factors, which can lead to the development of acute and posttraumatic stress. Further, strategies for prevention of posttraumatic stress disorder, as well as the concept of resilience, will be explored. Diagnostic criteria of various traumatic-stress related syndromes will be discussed. Theorists to be highlighted include Lenore Terr, Bessel van der Kolk, and Judith Herman.
Only open to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences program.
