SOWK 424 - Social Work Practice III Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact Prerequisite(s): SOWK 423 . This course builds on the content introduced in Social Work Practice II. Students will continue to examine the helping process concentrating on the ongoing and ending phases. The focus will be on using assessment to determine opportunities for multiple levels of intervention and the use of different helping approaches for problem solving. Students will deepen their knowledge of generalist practice concepts and skills for providing service to individuals, families, groups, and communities and their application in work with different populations, especially those at-risk. The course also emphasizes specific strategies for representing clients’ needs and securing resources through environmental interventions and in carrying out case management and interdisciplinary team activities. Students will learn the skills for practice evaluation. This course is taken concurrently with fieldwork. Open only to majors.
