MEDA 125 - Intro to Cinema Credit(s): 6 6 hours lecture, 6 hours contact This seminar examines the history, language, and major milestones of cinema. Students will learn about the international origins of moving pictures, and the history of domestic film production leading to the classical Hollywood style. The course will explore Hollywood as an institution, focusing on narrative techniques, genres and genre conventions, auteurs, and production styles of the studio system. Toward the end of the course students will be introduced to a variety of critical approaches to analyzing cinema. A Life Arts Project is required. Only open to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences program.
