COMM 251 - The Culture Industry

3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact
Prerequisite(s): Introductory level Social Science or Communications course. 
This course will examine the seminal text by Adorno and Horkheimer. Analyzing such topics as mass media, Marxism, psychanalysis, and the Frankfurt school of thought, students will gain insight into the socio-political aspects of culture, advertisement, and entertainment. Along with Adorno and Horkheimer, students will read from such authors as bell hooks, Habernlas, and Manovich, amongst others.
