SOCL 240 - Sociology of Work

6 hours lecture, 6 hours contact
Prerequisite(s): An introductory course in Sociology.
This course will examine the cultural, social and organizational aspects of work in contemporary society. Students will explore the larger social and economic trends that affect how work is organized and experienced by workers. These trends will include, changing demographics, industrialization, immigration, technological advances, globalization, and the effect such movements as the women’s and civil rights movements have had on work and the workforce. Students will also discuss the significance of work in everyday life including the relationship between work and family and the consumer culture. A Life Arts Project is required. Only open to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Science program.
