SOCL 400 - Sociology of Education Credit(s): 6 6 hours lecture, 6 hours contact Prerequisite(s): SOCL 102 Introduction to Sociology In this course students will develop a sociological understanding of the multiple roles educational institutions play within the community. Using key sociological theories, concepts and research, students will investigate the social function of schooling, the social structure of schools, the stratification processes within and between schools, and the outcomes of education. Students will also explore how social and political forces shape what is taught, how and to whom, and analyze the role that education plays as a social equalizer.
A Life Arts Project is required.
Only offered to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences program.
