COMM 305 - Introduction to Advertising Credit(s): 6 6 hours lecture, 6 hours contact This seminar introduces the role of advertising in our society. Topics to be addressed include: the nature and function of influence in advertising, the cumulative effect of ads on social development, techniques of persuasion and influence as tools of advertisers, the symbolic and sublimated message, and the relationship between advertising and a consumer economy. Special emphasis will be given to the structure of commercial advertising.
A Life Arts Project is required.
Only open to students in the B.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences program.
