CASC 260 - Chemical Dependency Counel Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact This seminar is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of chemical dependency within group counseling. Students will explore the dynamics of the group process from formation to termination, focusing on intervention in both early recovery and long-term treatment modalities. Theoretical and practical topics include: group types, contracting group members, establishing goals/objective/guidelines, the advantages and limitations of the group, and Yalom’s 11 curative factors of group counseling. The major stages of group development will be reviewed, as well as issues pertaining to group leaders, norms, strategies, and the differences between chemical dependency groups and psychiatric groups.
