ENGL 300 - Magic, Romance, and Science in Medieval Literature Credit(s): 3 3 hours lecture, 3 hours contact Prerequisite(s): ENGL 112 or ENGL 192 / HONR 192 . In this course, we will track magic, science, fantasy, and romance through medieval literature written in the vernacular across the continent to determine how these concepts connect and intersect. Furthermore, we will interrogate how their portrayal in medieval genres has shaped some of the most popular forms of entertainment today, from the MMORPG World of Warcraft to Dungeons & Dragons to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings to George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones .
