PHTR 545 - Adolescence and Physical Therapy Practice Credit(s): 5 5 semester hours The concentration of this course is the study of adolescence. The course reviews the multiple problems in the transition from childhood to adulthood. The most common causes of impairment/disability encountered in this age group are examined including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and other musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiopulmonary disorders. Students are exposed to the impact of these disorders on the patient’s social, functional and family life. Students develop the clinical skills needed to perform assessment and develop intervention strategies. Practicum experiences include demonstration and review of assessments and intervention techniques. Offered spring trimester only.
