CISC 131 , CISC 231 , MATH 116  (or MATH 115 ) and MATH 120 /CISC 120 MATH 122 MATH 201  are Prerequisites for the major and must be used to fulfill general education requirements*.

Program Outcomes


By the end of this program, students should be able to:

  • List the fundamental concepts of information assurance and cyber defense
  • Identify the vulnerabilities in network infrastructures, and monitor the attack activities
  • Describe proactive/reactive protocols, tools and techniques, apply the countermeasures
  • Produce secure software components and perform software security analysis
  • Describe cryptographic protocols, tools and techniques and apply crypto algorithms
  • List applicability of laws and policies and describe the compliances and their impacts

The Cybersecurity Minor


Students can choose to have a minor in Cybersecurity.

15 credits required.

  1. CSEC curriculum uses both IASP and CISC course codes. Check its curriculum for courses allowed in CSEC Minor.
  2. Students need to use Gen Ed elective and/or open elective to fulfill the 15 credits requirements.
  3. Recommended five courses for CSEC minor are among CISC 131 , IASP 221 , IASP 230 ,IASP 330 IASP 340 , CISC 359 .

    Note, any course being used to fulfill students’ major requirements cannot be used for towards the minor. For example, IASP 230   cannot be used for some majors due to the fact that their majors have required it as one of their major courses already.

* These courses fulfill part of the General Education requirements. The total of major concentration is 16 courses or 48 credits.

Mercy College’s 15-credit residency requirement in the major concentrations of cybersecurity must be satisfied by courses numbered 200 or above.

 

Students in the B.S. Cybersecurity program can apply to the 4+1 B.S. Cybersecurity/M.S. Cybersecurity program before senior year.  Students in the 4+1 program will take four graduate courses(12 credits) that will apply to the undergraduate degree as open electives and also apply to the graduate program major courses. IASP 585 may NOT be used to fulfill the requirements of the undergraduate portion of the degree.

Undergraduate students who are not interested in applying to the 4+1 B.S. Cybersecurity/M.S. Cybersecurity program but have an interest in taking up to two graduate courses while an undergraduate student should consult the Graduate Courses Policy in the Graduate Studies section of Academic Regulations and Procedures and Student Policies   for the criteria.
