NURS 261 - Ethics in Healthcare

Credit(s): 3
Ethics is an integral part of healthcare practice and has always involved respect and advocacy for the rights and needs of patients regardless of setting. Honesty and acting ethically are two key elements of professional behavior, which have a major impact on patient safety. This course provides a foundation on ethics with emphasis on the importance of ethics in a caring and healing framework. Ethical issues and dilemmas across the lifespan are discussed, including organizational ethics, health care rationing, clinical decisions involving genetics and end of life decisions, and healthcare informatics. Students will develop skills in presenting well-reasoned arguments to participate in inter-professional ethics collaboration and decision making.
